Vital uses ICD-10, HCPCS/CPT codes, and the patient's reason for visit to assign relevant education to the patient. Vital evaluates the patient's diagnosis codes to understand their health condition and associated symptoms, as well as their HCPCS/CPT codes to identify the specific medical procedures or services that they have received. The Vital algorithm considers the patient's reason for visit to identify any additional factors that may impact their health and well-being.
For example, a patient who comes into the ED with "dizziness" as their reason for visit and was subsequently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (ICD-10 code E11.9) and underwent a blood glucose test (CPT code 82962) would see education covering the following topics:
Healthy eating habits for people with diabetes
How to properly monitor blood glucose levels
Patients are able to read or watch these videos and provide feedback on the relevance of the video.
Video Types
As Vital uses several data sources to prescribe videos to patients, there are different triggers that add videos. The types of videos Vital adds for each of these triggers are defined below.

Vital Urgent Care: Reason-for-visit videos are also organized into playlists (for example, a "Respiratory" playlist and a "Head & Neck pain" playlist). Reasons for visit are mapped to the closest playlist, e.g. "Migraine" or "Headache" map to the "Head & Neck pain" playlist.

Do you support educational content for pediatric patients?
Each video in the Vital library is marked as either "Adult," "Pediatric," or "Both" to indicate the audience each video is intended for.
For patients < 18 years old, Vital adds any video that matches the "Pediatric" or "Both" video types.
For patients > 18 years old, Vital adds any video that matches the "Adult" or "Both" video types.
