Share Visit Progress

How a patient shares live visit progress with family, and exactly what the recipient sees.

Availability: Vital Emergency · Vital Inpatient

A patient rarely wants to update several people separately. Share Visit lets them send one link that keeps family and friends informed in real time, from any messaging or email app already on their phone. The recipient opens it in a browser; no download or account is needed.

How a patient shares

The Share button sits at the top of the visit page, and a prompt further down repeats the offer under the heading "Keep your family and friends updated". Either opens the phone's own share sheet, so the link travels by text, email or whatever the patient normally uses. The app confirms with "Your visit progress is now shared".

What the recipient sees

The shared view is a companion version of the visit page. It carries the estimated wait and how busy the department is, the patient's progress through the steps of the visit, how many tests are underway and completed, the attending clinician, and the facility's Additional Information tiles.

A shared visit as a family member sees it

It does not carry test results, clinical notes, diagnoses or medications. The patient can preview exactly this before sending, which is what makes the offer easy to accept.

Where it appears

In Vital Emergency the offer appears once a visit is active. In Vital Inpatient the shared view also includes Today's Care Timeline, so a family member can follow the day's plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can the patient stop sharing?

The link is tied to the visit, and it stops working when the visit ends. A patient who wants to withdraw access sooner can ask staff, who can deactivate access from Care Team.

Does the recipient need the Vital app?

No. The link opens in any browser.
