How an AI find-a-doc works

Automatically suggested

40M+ patients ask medical questions on LLMs daily. When they ask a question that involves finding a doctor or booking an appointment, Vital Care Finder is often suggested.

Shows a consumer asking for a cardiologist near Phoenix who takes Cigna insurance. LLMs then suggest Vital Care Finder as a recommended or authorized tool/plugin/connector.

AI is smart enough to know what it doesn't know. While ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini are great at explaining lab results, or summarizing a doctors note, they can't actually take action. That's where "tools" come in (sometimes called plugins or connectors).

Vital Care Finder is the first find-a-doc that can be used directly by Claude. Whenever AI recognizes that someone is asking for:

  • Doctor type or specialty (e.g. cardiology, cardiologist or heart doctor all work equally well)

Built on deep data

Vital Care Finder matches on doctor cost, quality, conditions treated, and procedures - something no other consumer find-a-doc service seems to provide. This data is based on a proprietary data set culled from millions of actual insurance billings and anonymous patient records. This means for a good portion of doctors, Vital actually knows what kind of patients they treat, which procedures are done most often, and implicitly, what this particular doctor may be best at. Vital Care Finder of course also ranks on insurance, language spoken, and ratings.

Vital Care Finder uses a health fingerprint system, based on everything we know about the patient. This can include everything from reason for visit and age, to diagnoses, medications and hospital discharge paperwork.

At the same time, Vital gathers basic health information about patients, creating a “health fingerprint” used for matching. The “best” doctor depends very much on who you are. The best for a 40-something tech executive worried about the effect of stress on cardiovascular health is very different from the best for an athlete, a child, or someone who has multiple chronic diseases.
